Job Description for HPUX Engineer

Engineer will be part of a 24/7 IT backup operations team and will be directly responsible for Backup related processes.
The position involves taking a leadership role with customer teams and internal teams to resolve problems, maintain managed Data Protectorbackup operations and, when necessary, to return systems to operational status.
The job also involves leading communication between technical teams, customer and internal organization to fulfill customer needs and accomplish customer satisfaction.
Job specific responsibilities include maintaining complex Data Protector Backup Solutions which may involve Virtual libraries, Disk to Disk Backup systems, physical Tape Libraries, OS, Backup Software, Switch, SAN or Library components.
Supporting and troubleshooting Data Protector backup, recovery and archiving in a large, complex and widely distributed environment.
Analyzing daily backup failures, identifying root cause and resolving issues systematically to bring Backup success rate close to 100%
Provide status and progress reports for Data Protector backup environment related activities and tasks on regular/periodic basis.
Plan and implement best practices for backup solutions.
Proactive measures to ensure adequate storage capacity is available.
Create and update documentation for backup procedures, solutions, licensing and applicable project artifacts.
Perform configuration changes as per design and build.
Capability to upgrade Data Protector software across different versions and regular patching of Data Protector environment.
Experience required:

Bachelor’s degree or Master’s Degree in Technical Discipline
5+ Years hands on experience in Service & Support on Low end, Mid-Range and Higher Cell Based HP PARISC, Integrity Servers, Superdome 2 and Blade Servers.
1-2 years of Field support experience preferred.
Troubleshooting experience on Blade enclosures and Blade networking
Troubleshooting experience on HPUX up to 11iv3 and Linux flavors
Troubleshooting experience on HPUX software’s such as LVM and Ignite UX
Troubleshooting experience on High Availability products such as HP Serviceguard and Linux cluster.
Troubleshooting experience of Virtual Partitions and HPVM.

HP Superdome 2 servers
Serviceguard / HPUX vPar / Integrity VM products
HP software products LVM / Ignite

HPUX Certification
ITIL Preferred.


Technical Skills:

Good understanding about HP Integrity and SuperDome-2
4+ years relevant experience in NPAR, VPAR and HPVM
User management and LVM Management and MC Service Guard Cluster.
Hands-on 5+ Years of experience in HP-UX.
Upgrade H/W firmware
DR/BCP Testing
Monitoring events, alarms and subsequent action
Patch and package management.
Basic understanding of storage and backup.
Investigation and diagnose of remedy incidents.
